Handheld Microphone
The quintessential handle with a sphere on the end is the handheld mic. Hold it in your hand, or set it in a microphone stand.
Uh oh: Here comes the variety and the eye glazing “But which one?” part. There are different sound pickup technologies: Dynamic and condenser.
They can be omnidirectional or directional (cardioid), and hypercardioid, picking up a narrower area in front of the microphone.
Use two of these set on stands to capture the speech of two people.
Advantages:
Different patterns for different situations
Disadvantages:
Can be somewhat obtrusive
